The founders of RedCard realized that many of the inefficiencies in the business of healthcare are due to the ID card itself. Creating a collaborative card design was important, and the RedCard format is a result of market research conducted in late 2006 to early 2007. To effectively implement the production of the cards, RedCard created a 'healthcare-only' outsourcing solution.
Officially founded in October 2006, the inspiration for RedCard came in 2002 to colleagues Eric Schaefer, Joe DiMartini, and Dru Schmitt. Years earlier, they had discovered the power of standardization by organizing 650 independent regional payers and simplifying the distribution of checks, remittance advice and EOB’s. These 650 payers represented some 20 million lives, collectively making them the third largest commercial payer in the US. By leveraging their aligned interests, these organizations were able to simplify operations, streamline processes, and save $40 million annually.
Today, RedCard draws from that experience and operates in a new and more important medium: The ID card.
