The nation's largest health benefits company has selected Affiliated Computer Services, Inc. (NYSE: ACS) to provide an innovative and cost effective method to communicate with key stakeholders.
Under the new contract with WellPoint, which has the largest medical membership of all benefits companies in the country, ACS will provide healthcare communication services, including printing, mailroom, member fulfillment services and outbound communications with members and providers of WellPoint’s affiliated health plans. ACS will manage more than one billion documents annually, enabling WellPoint to enhance communications with health plan members and providers. ACS will deploy new technology and a unique operating model to consolidate multiple communications or payments into one mailing, dramatically reducing expenses.
ACS is providing WellPoint with an innovative business solution that allows predictable costs, guaranteed and accelerated savings as well as improved communication with members and providers,” said David Finkel, WellPoint’s senior vice president for service operations. “Nothing is more personal than one’s healthcare, and partnering with ACS will allow our associates to spend more time answering questions and providing information to the approximately 35 million members of WellPoint’s affiliated health plans.”
Complementing ACS’ existing voice communication services strategy with WellPoint and extending a 20-year relationship, ACS will consolidate printing, processing, and fulfillment for explanation of benefits, provider payments and other outbound correspondence, allowing members and providers to receive the communications or payments in the most efficient manner possible.
“ACS’ partnership with WellPoint is a creative approach that maximizes savings for WellPoint and allows it to dedicate more resources to and a greater focus on serving members and providers,” said Connie Harvey, managing director at ACS. “In addition to immediate savings, WellPoint will benefit from ACS’ ability to reduce operating costs through our investments in technology and infrastructure.”
This new approach, which leverages previous investments, corporate expertise and a blend of services, enables ACS to create an additional service offering available to any healthcare payer or insurance organization, enabling payers and insurers to capitalize on ACS expertise in transaction processing, customer care, recovery services and outbound fulfillment capabilities.
ACS has partnered with RedCard Systems, to create operational efficiencies for WellPoint and other healthcare payers. RedCard’s technology expertise, across the spectrum of document management and delivery, will enable ACS’ clients to reduce their costs while enhancing their correspondence through customized solutions.
