One thing that makes most healthcare ID cards confusing is the contact phone numbers. With the RedCard, any phone number that’s important to the provider instead of the member is clearly labeled. We are in the Healthlink Network, so I know that if I have a question, I should call the number labeled “providers”, as opposed to dialing two or three numbers that might be randomly placed on another card. When we see RedCards coming through, we know exactly where the information is going to be, regardless of the patient’s health plan or payer. The clear organization of the RedCard makes it really easy for our office staff to use.

 When we see a patient, we always want to make sure we have the most up-to-date information about them in our system. On the RedCard, the patient information is in the upper left corner on the front of the card. This is the first place your eye naturally falls when you look at any document, so it’s easy to immediately see what we need: their name, their ID number, and any eligible dependents. You’d be surprised how many cards we see that don’t even have that information! We love the layout and look of the RedCards and these clearly labeled tabs.

One of our biggest issues is verifying the patients' type of dental insurance.  The same insurance company may offer several different types of plan.  Our office may or may not participate in certain plans. It is extremely important that our office can determine the dental coverage for the patient at check-in.  Finding the information on the ID card is CRITICAL.  We have patients coming in and giving us their medical card, not realizing that their dental is completely separate.   With the RedCard, the dental plan is always in the same place on the front of the ID card. It’s easy to find....the name of the plan, the logo, and all the necessary info is right there. We hope all the dental plans start using the RedCard.
